Privacy notice.
In effect from 20 July 2026. Governed by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for readers in Quebec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector as amended by Law 25.
Who we are
feldspire is an independent, non-commercial publication about mobile games, edited and operated by Colin Mahaffy in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. It is not an incorporated company and it does not sell anything.
Person accountable for personal information
Law 25 and PIPEDA both require a named individual to be accountable for the personal information we hold. That person is:
- Colin Mahaffy, Privacy Officer
- [email protected]
- Written requests may also be sent to [email protected], but privacy requests are answered faster at the address above.
What we collect, and why
1. If you subscribe to issue notices
Your email address, the name you type if you type one, and the fact that you ticked the consent box. Purpose: to tell you when a new issue is published, by email and, if your browser permits it, by push notification.
2. If you send us a message
Your email address, your name if given, and the content of your message. Purpose: to reply to you. We never ask for a telephone number and there is no field for one anywhere on this site.
3. Push notification subscription data
If you allow notifications, our provider records a device or browser subscription identifier, the push endpoint issued by your browser vendor, and basic technical details such as browser type, operating system, timezone and approximate language. This is what makes it technically possible to deliver a notification to your device.
4. Server logs
Our hosting provider records standard request logs, which include IP address, timestamp, requested page and user agent. These exist for security and to keep the site running.
We do not run analytics, advertising pixels, behavioural profiling or automated decision-making, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Consent, and how to take it back
Our legal basis for the subscription list and for push notifications is your meaningful consent, given by ticking the box and, for push specifically, by accepting the browser permission prompt. We ask for it separately for each and we do not pre-tick anything.
You can withdraw at any time, without giving a reason and without affecting anything else:
- Email notices: use the unsubscribe link in any message, or write to [email protected] and we will remove you.
- Push notifications: revoke the notification permission for feldspire.com in your browser settings. That stops delivery immediately at the device level. Ask us as well and we will delete the subscription record at our end.
- Everything: ask us to delete what we hold, and we will, except where we are required to keep something for a legal reason.
Declining notifications, or never subscribing at all, does not restrict any part of this site. Everything published here is free to read either way.
Service providers
We use a small number of third parties to operate the site. They process personal information on our instructions and for no other purpose.
OneSignal, Inc. (United States)
OneSignal delivers our email and push notifications. When you load any page of this site, the OneSignal software development kit is loaded from its content delivery network. If you subscribe, OneSignal stores your email address, the tags we attach to your record (the site domain, the name you gave, and the fact the subscription came from a web form), and the push subscription identifiers described above. OneSignal registers a service worker in your browser and stores identifiers in your browser's local storage and IndexedDB. Its privacy policy is published at onesignal.com/privacy_policy.
Hosting
The site is served by a commercial hosting provider that maintains standard access logs as described above.
Transfer outside Canada
This matters and we are not going to bury it. OneSignal, Inc. is based in the United States, and personal information relating to your subscription is stored and processed there. Information held in another country is subject to that country's laws, including lawful access by its authorities, and that protection is not identical to Canadian law. We have satisfied ourselves that the provider offers a comparable level of protection through its contractual commitments, which is the standard PIPEDA requires and which Law 25 requires us to assess before transferring. If you would rather your information were not transferred outside Canada, the correct step is simply not to subscribe. Nothing on the site is withheld from you for that choice.
How long we keep things
- Subscription records: until you withdraw, or until the subscription has been inactive for 24 months, whichever comes first. After that they are deleted.
- Messages sent through the contact page: up to 12 months after the matter is closed, then deleted.
- Server logs: retained by the hosting provider for a short operational period, typically no more than 30 days.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA, and with additional rights under Law 25 if you are in Quebec, you may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- have it corrected if it is inaccurate or incomplete;
- withdraw consent and have the information deleted;
- ask, if you are in Quebec, for computerised information you provided to us to be communicated in a structured, commonly used technological format (portability);
- receive an explanation of how we handled your request.
Write to [email protected]. We answer within 30 days, which is the deadline both statutes set. There is no charge.
Breach
If a breach of security safeguards occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, notify the individuals affected, and keep a record of it, as PIPEDA requires. Quebec residents would also be notified to the Commission d'acces a l'information.
Complaints
Please raise it with us first; a one-person publication can usually fix a problem faster than a regulator can. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to:
- Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
- priv.gc.ca, 30 Victoria Street, Gatineau, Quebec K1A 1H3, 1-800-282-1376
- Commission d'acces a l'information du Quebec (for Quebec residents)
- cai.gouv.qc.ca
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 14. If you believe a child has subscribed, tell us and we will remove the record.
Changes
If this notice changes in a way that affects how we use your information, the date at the top changes and subscribers are told before the change takes effect.
